Welcome. I’m A. L. Mejia, and this is a place for stories born from the difficult spaces between darkness and light—where memory lingers, questions matter, faith is tested, and hope sometimes arrives when we least expect it.
Come in. Stay awhile. You may recognize something of yourself here.
I write at the intersection of story, faith, memory, and the human condition—exploring what breaks us, what shapes us, and what can lead us home again.
I write because there are things inside us that ordinary conversation cannot always carry.
There are memories that resist explanation. Grief that changes shape but never completely disappears. Questions we ask God in rooms where nobody else can hear us. There are moments from childhood, family, love, loss, service, failure, faith, fear, and survival that remain somewhere beneath the surface long after the world assumes we have moved on.
Writing gives those things somewhere to go.
Sometimes they become poetry.
Sometimes they become characters who carry pieces of us into worlds that never existed.
Sometimes they become essays because a question refuses to leave me alone until I have followed the evidence as far as it will take me.
And sometimes they become stories about ordinary people standing in kitchens, hospital rooms, empty bedrooms, city streets, churches, or beside someone they love—trying to understand what happens next.
That is where I find the heartbeat of writing.
I am not interested in pretending that life is easy. I am interested in what people do when it isn't.
I want to write about the person who feels forgotten. The person carrying something nobody else sees. The person questioning everything they once believed. The person who has made mistakes and wonders whether redemption is still possible. The person staring into the darkness, searching for even the smallest evidence of light.
Because sometimes hope does not arrive like thunder.
Sometimes it is barely a whisper.
Sometimes it is another human being.
Sometimes it is a story.
And sometimes, when we have wandered farther than we ever intended, it is the light that finds us.
That is why I write.
